The Charter at Twenty has
been devised to draw together constitutional scholars, jurists,
and other interested persons from across Canada and abroad
to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the adoption of
the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Organized around
the broad themes of the Charter and Democracy and the Charter
and Public Policy, the conference will involve both roundtables
and panel sessions in which discussion and debate will be
actively encouraged.
The Charter at Twenty begins
on Friday, April 12 with a reception in the historic
Convocation Hall of old Osgoode
Hall, 130 Queen Street West, Toronto. Hosted by the
Honourable R. Roy McMurtry, Chief Justice of Ontario,
the reception will take place between 5:30-7:00 p.m.
The reception will be followed by a banquet at Convocation
Hall that will include an address by the Honourable Stéphane
Dion, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada
and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.
The
conference itself will be held on Saturday, April 13 at the Professional
Development Program Centre (of Osgoode Hall Law School) at 1 Dundas
Street West, Toronto (26th floor). The PDP Centre is located at
the corner of Dundas and Yonge.
The
conference begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. Details about sessions and
