York's Graduate Programme in English offers a variety of courses over the range of literature in English, encouraging and fostering a diversity of critical and theoretical approaches. Special emphasis is placed on literatures since 1800, including Canadian and Postcolonial literatures, and on Literary Theory, and Linguistics & Stylistics.

York's 50th Anniversary - March 27, 2009
Classes will not be scheduled on Friday, March 27, 2009, to accommodate the events planned in recognition of York's 50th Anniversary. Monday, April 6, 2009 has been established as a make-up day to accommodate the Friday classes. Classes regularly scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2009 will be held on Monday, April 6, 2009.

PhD FIRST/SECOND FIELD EXAMINATIONS

Field Examination sittings are scheduled three times a year. In 2008, the examination sitting dates are May 1/2, August 28/29 and December 4/5. Written notification of intent to write an examination is due in the Programme office five months prior to writing. The exam Reading list is due in Programme office eight weeks prior to writing. Written confirmation of sitting due in Programme Office six weeks prior to writing.
